Join our social welfare team
Joining our team in Social Welfare is a great way to help us give something back to the people of Jakarta and contribute to local communities. You don't need any prior experience, but if you have a special skill, come and talk to us about opportunities at our projects. Below are some of the ways you can get involved.
For more information on any of these activities, contact us.
WAYS TO GET INVOLVED
Come along to a committee meeting
Our Social Welfare Committee meets once a month on the third Monday of the month. We have two Co-Directors, a Secretary, a Treasurer, Project Coordinators and general members.
Together we report on our projects, discuss new ideas and proposals and manage ANZA's Social Welfare program.
All ANZA members are welcome, so come and check us out.
Join our orphanage playgroup
Every Tuesday from 9.15 to 11.30 am volunteers run a playgroup for babies and toddlers from the Sayap Ibu orphanage. The playgroup is held at ANZA House and ‘The Playground’ in Kemang on alternating weeks. You can play with the children and join in whenever you are available.
Become a Project Coordinator
We support more than 20 projects around Jakarta. As a Project Coordinator, you would visit your project at least once a month and become the key contact person, reporting back to the committee on new developments and changing needs. We regularly have vacancies for Project Coordinators or you can help one of our team at their project.
Take classes or activities for underprivileged children
We support several schools for disadvantaged children and street kids. You can teach classes in English, music, arts and crafts, or an activity of your choice. The main aim is to provide the children with opportunities to practise their English so you do not need to speak Bahasa Indonesia. You can also team teach with another volunteer if you prefer. Experience is welcome but not necessary, and the rewards are huge. A weekly commitment is preferred.
Join an evaluation team
All of our projects are assessed by a team from our committee. We regularly assess new proposals and re-evaluate projects that we currently support when their circumstances change. Join an evaluation team and gain an insight into Jakarta beyond the shopping malls.
Help disabled children
ANZA volunteers regularly visit Sayap Ibu Bintaro, a private orphanage in West Jakarta. This orphanage is home to about 35 disabled children. You can play with the children, help them with sensory and motor activities, or help them swim in a heated hydrotherapy pool.
Help disabled adults
ANZA volunteers regularly visit a home for disabled adults, most of whom are paraplegic. The residents are very keen to attend English classes and also enjoy learning new craft skills so they can make items they can sell. This is a great opportunity to teach English or craft to some very enthusiastic adults.
Interview university students
ANZA sponsors 10 Goodwill International Scholarship students. These are needy university students entering their second year of study. Every year in February, ANZA volunteers help Goodwill interview new students with academic and leadership potential who hope to receive scholarships. This is a great way to meet Indonesia's young leaders of tomorrow and feel inspired.
Get involved in events and occasional volunteering
If you don't want to commit to regular volunteering, we always need extra helpers. You can bake for or man our stalls at the twice-yearly ANZA Bazaar, help sort donations in our storeroom or in the library at ANZA House, help with emergency relief in times of flooding, or sell raffle tickets at the ANZA Ball.
